Raising Teenagers - HELP

Raising Teenagers
Help for Parents and Carers

At Bexleyheath Academy, we understand that helping children go through yet another transition, from childhood into teenage years can be not only confusing and demanding for the child, but extremely challenging and emotionally draining for the parent/carer.

At year seven, all students will engage in a eight-week PSHEE Carousel curriculum-based course where they will explore the following topics:
  • British Values
  • Virtues
  • Sex and Relationship Education
  • Personal Finances
  • Nutrition and Effects of Energy Drinks
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • Careers and Transferrable Skills
  • Tolerance of Diversity (Anti-bullying)
  • Self-expression and Articulation
To access the Scheme of Learning for this course, click here. You will be able to access the resources that we will be using during this carousel course. By you familiarising yourself with what we are delivering your children in class, we can take a 'team approach' to tackling any issues that may arise in the future together.

While we will do our best to help shape your children into well-rounded citizens ready to actively participate and give back to our local and global communities, we believe that parents and carers should be given the opportunity to access resources aimed at supporting them while they facilitate this critical change in their child's life.

A great 'one-stop-shop' is this website: Raising Children Network. It has some fantastic, real, useful and tested strategies that can help you decide what strategies to try with your family.

Another great resources is: Fostering Resilience.

The 7 C's

So that you have every chance of raising authentically successful children, the 7 C's really do play a fundamental part of how you develop and foster resilience in your children. A very good book to read if you're interested is: Building Resilience in Children and Teens - look it up on amazon.co.uk
  1. Competence
  2. Confidence
  3. Connection
  4. Character
  5. Contribution
  6. Coping
  7. Control
